Will Montague
Over 30 years of experience representing businesses and individuals across various industries, with a deep focus in intellectual property & technology law.
Attorney Background
Will Montague is a highly experienced intellectual property law attorney whose career spans numerous industries, with a special focus on intellectual property and business litigation. He has served as lead counsel in commercial, intellectual property, and technology cases in federal and state courts for more than three decades. His understanding of the nuances involved in protecting assets — and proactive, tailored legal strategies — have made him a trusted advisor to innovators of every size.
After leaving a major law firm at the end of 2010, Will founded his solo practice in a local tech hub, immersing himself in the entrepreneurial environment alongside software developers, video game creators, and other innovators. This move allowed him to fully integrate cost-effective legal counsel into the working rhythm of the companies he serves.
Other attorneys are among Will’s most frequent sources of new matters. Solo and small-firm colleagues frequently refer intellectual property and technology-related matters to him, and litigation counsel bring him in as IP or technology-specific co-counsel. He is careful with those relationships: the client you send remains your client for everything beyond the matter at hand.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Kentucky College of Law, Will began his career clerking for a federal judge before joining Stoll Keenon & Park, where he became an equity partner and co-founded the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Department. He later became an equity partner at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP before launching Montague Law PLLC in 2011 to provide more personalized, cost-effective legal counsel.
Experience & Areas of Focus

He has been recognized for his contributions to the legal field with various honors and awards, and has co-authored legal publications.
