Fees & Billing

Our Fees

At Montague Law, we offer transparent and flexible fee structures to help you manage costs effectively.

General Fees

Our goal is simple: to deliver quality legal services at a fair price, without unexpected costs or financial strain.

We offer flexible billing options to suit the unique needs of each project. Depending on the nature of your legal matter, we may bill on a traditional hourly basis or, where appropriate, a fixed-fee basis. For truly major projects — engagements of roughly $10,000 and up — we're always glad to discuss other innovative ways to structure and price our billing.

Nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations: we're glad to discuss fee arrangements that fit mission-driven budgets — just ask.

For open-ended projects like litigation or contract negotiations, hourly billing may be necessary. However, we strive to collaborate with clients to establish fixed fees where we can. One note on litigation: we unfortunately cannot offer contingency (percentage of recovery) fee billing.

Consultations. Montague Law offers initial consultations (up to 30 minutes) for $175, credited to your first bill if you retain our services.
Referring attorneys and co-counsel. We regularly work with other lawyers, taking on referred intellectual property and technology law matters. We also regularly serve as co-counsel in IP and commercial litigation. Our flat-fee services (including Ambit) make it easy to get a client's IP work handled by an IP lawyer while you keep the client relationship. Call to discuss a referral, or feel free to just point your client our way.

Ambit · A service of Montague Law PLLC

Flat-fee trademark search and registration, entirely online.

Ambit is our streamlined flat-fee service for searching and registering U.S. trademarks — defined scope, transparent pricing, and a straightforward online process from search to registration.

  • A U.S. knockout search of USPTO records for conflicts, with a straight risk assessment of your mark's registrability before anything is filed
  • Your application drafted — including the goods and services descriptions — and filed with the USPTO
  • We track your application through registration and translate every USPTO notice into plain English and practical choices

Packages from $1,295

Start your trademark at Ambit → Ambit fits most new U.S. trademark applications. For complex situations — large portfolios, contested marks, or unusual filing strategies — contact us for a consultation and traditional engagement. Package prices are flat attorney fees; USPTO filing fees ($350 per class) are collected separately into trust, and no consultation is needed to start. Non-substantive office-action responses are included in the flat fee; substantive refusals are quoted separately before any work begins.

Trademark Searches (Without an Application)

These standalone searches are for when you want an assessment without filing an application — if you plan to register, the Ambit packages above include the search.

Legal Fee Financing May Be Available

If it would help to spread the cost of legal services over time, financing may be available through Clio Pay Later, provided through Affirm. Qualifying clients can pay an invoice in fixed monthly installments, on terms ranging from three to thirty-six months — and checking your eligibility with Affirm takes a moment and does not affect your credit score. Financing is subject to application and approval by Affirm, which sets all rates and terms, and is currently available to individual clients only, not to businesses or other entities. If you're interested, just ask — we're glad to tell you whether it's an option for your matter.

Payment Methods

We accept checks, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express), and electronic checks. Please visit our Clio Payments secure online bill payment page to pay our invoices by credit card or e-check. For advance retainer payments, be sure to use our Clio Payments secure online trust account payment page.
